Donald Ray Miller, 62, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008 with his family at his side at his residence in Tilton. Donald was born May 31, 1946 in Tilton son of James D. Sr. & Mary L. Burton Miller. He married Priscilla Arleina Wangler on November 15, 1964 at the Tilton United Church of Christ. His loving wife Priscilla and two children survive him: Steven Lawrence (Cynthia) Miller of Bloomington, IL and Michele (Rev. Peter) Robinson of Lansing, MI.; identical twin brother Ronald (Cathy) Miller of Tilton & James Miller Jr. of Westville; precious grandchildren: Abraham Lawrence Miller, Alisha Mae Miller, & Hannah Miller Robinson; also many cousins, nieces, & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving grandchildren: Joel Alexander Miller & Joseph Miller Robinson, brothers: Arthur, Harry, & Benjamin; sisters: Mary & Marlene. Don was a 64 graduate of Danville High School and had worked for General Motors for 32 years as a sand house operator, clerk, switchman, and as alternate committeeman for the union and member of UAW # 579 until retiring in 1995. After retirement, he worked at McLane Midwest as a truck driver for close to 10 years. Don loved sports, the Chicago Cubs, Bears, & fighting Illini basketball and football; he was a little league coach and pony league where they took 2nd place in the Danville City Tournament. He volunteered as editor of the Tilton News and Views paper in Tilton, IL, writing many of the articles himself. Don was a past member of the Tilton Boy Scout Troop #17, receiving the order of the Arrow, Tilton Lions Club, & the Kennekuk Roadrunners, completing four marathons in his time. He was a life member of the Tilton Historical Society, Vermilion County Museum, and the Illiana Genealogical & Historical Society. Don was baptized at the age of 12 in the mouth of the Jordan River in Catlin TWSP and has been a member of the United Church of Tilton ever since. He was elected in 1975 to the Village of Tiltons board of Trustee serving five consecutive terms; he wanted to help the elderly and the youth of his beloved hometown, that gave so much to him. Don wrote and submitted the application for the Illinois Home Town Award for the Tilton Fire and Rescue Department. The Village of Tilton won the award in 1985. Don was known by his friends and family as being a kind, honest, honorable man with great integrity. He always had a smile and a kind word for all. He could be found walking his dog Sassy in Tilton. Don dedicated his life to his family, friends, and the Village of Tilton. A Celebration of Donalds Life will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at The United Church of Tilton with Revs. Anita Livingood & Marvin McCormick officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Monday evening at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Songer Cemetery in Catlin TWSP.
