Donald E. Lesko, 79, entered into the gates of heaven on Friday, April 15, 2011 from the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Don was born Feb. 22, 1932, in Danville, the eldest son of Adolph and Matilda (Stimac) Lesko He married Jane Poland, his high school sweetheart, on June 14, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danville by the Rev. Frank Faulstich. She survives and will dearly miss her husband of 58 years. Also surviving are three daughters, Madonna (Robert) Capps of Mesa, AZ, Debbie (Ray) Miller of Decatur, IL and Melanie (Ron) Young of Fishers, IN. There are 6 grandchildren, Joshua Capps, of Portland, OR, Jenna (Troy) Davis, of Apache Junction, AZ, Megan (Jason) Pickerill, Decatur, IL, Marcie Miller of Decatur, IL., Ashley Young and Daniel Young of Fishers, IN. There is a great granddaughter, Aubree Moore of Decatur and a step great grandson, Grifyn Davis of Apache Junction, AZ. Don is also survived by a brother, Jerry (Karla) Lesko of Crown Point, IN., and 11 nieces and nephews. The evening before Dons passing he received a happy phone message from granddaughter, Jenna Davis of Apache Junction telling him that he would have a new great granddaughter in Sept. This brought a huge smile across his face. He was preceded in death by his parents. Don was a graduate of St. Marys school in Westville and Schlarman High School and a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church. He had been a member of the Illinois National Guard then proudly served in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean Conflict, as a radio operator on a repair ship. He retired from Lauhoff Grain Company after 44 years Don was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and formerly held the office of Comptroller. He was a board member for the Lauhoff Credit Union several years. As a member of the Barbershop Singers he thoroughly enjoyed each and every performance. He had a quiet sense of humor and enjoyed teasing and playing tricks on his grandchildren whom he loved so very much. A Celebration of Pauls Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, April 18, 2011 at St. Pauls Catholic Church with Father Greg Nelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Sunday evening at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Danville with military honors preformed by the American Legion Post #210. In lieu of flowers please make memorials in Dons name to the Humane Society, St. Pauls Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
