Danville Donald Leighty, 87, of Danville, IL passed away at 1:50 AM on July 14, 2024 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, IL.
Don was born on November 23, 1936 the son of Roger and Edna (Shuppert) Leighty in Lawrenceville, IL. He married Kathryn "JoAnn" Hester on December 28, 1958.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Leighty of Danville, IL, his two sons, Jeff Leighty of Danville, IL and Brad (Jill) Leighty of Fishers, IN, three grandchildren, Anne (Tony) McMahon of Denver, CO, Katherine (John) Shattles of Carmel, IN and Jack Leighty of Grand Rapids, MI. Don is also survived by his twin brother, Ronald (Linda) Leighty of Mt Carmel, IL and his sister, Stephanie (Tim) Wilson of Estero, FL.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Arlene Leighty.
Don attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville and was a State Farm Agent in Danville, IL for over 37 years. He enjoyed working with his close State Farm family and appreciated all of his dedicated policy holders. Don missed them all deeply when he retired. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, turkey hunting, golfing and building and flying remote-controlled airplanes. He even taught his grandson how to build and fly remote-controlled airplanes with great precision. His granddaughters loved his uplifting sense of humor and his competitive spirit when playing cards. Then, finishing off the evening with a big bowl of ice cream.
The family would like to thank all of his helpful neighbors and friends as well as all of the caregivers at Liberty Village.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville, 2212 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois 61832. Pastor Dave Anderson will officiate. A Private Family Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm, IL. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 AM on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the First Church of the Nazarene.
Memorials may be made in Dons memory to the First Church of the Nazarene.
