In Loving Memory of Donald E. Lamar
December 12, 1936 -October 13, 2025
Donald (Dick), beloved husband, father, grandfather, ggpa and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He lived a life marked by dedication, hard work and love.
Born in Georgetown, IL to Gene and Angeline (Jordan) Lamar. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Eldorado, as an electrician, where he developed the discipline and integrity that guided him throughout his life. After his military service he returned home and met his wife of 67 years, Patricia (Wilfong) Lamar. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic, steady hands, and reliability.
When he wasn't working, Donald could often be found in his workshop, crafting pieces of wood into something beautiful and lasting. Woodworking wasn't just a hobby for him-it was a way to create, share, and to give joy to those around him. Donald also enjoyed fishing and hunting mushrooms.
He cherished the simple pleasures in life: spending time with family, taking yearly summer vacations, and enjoying the laughter and stories that came with those moments. His love for his family was evident in everything that he did, and his example of perseverance, humility, and kindness will remain a guiding light for those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, two daughters, Kim Jackson, Jennifer (Robert) Lopinski and a son, Rick (Vanda) Lamar. Seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Terry) Cooley, Niki (Jay Schlosser) Jackson, Lucas (Katie) Lamar, Jacob (Magdalena) Jackson, Lauren (Joe) Doll, Kane (Michelle) Lopinski, and Kristin (Jack) Gray, seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild. Four sisters, Dorothy Holman, Betty Beck, Sandy Wimsett and Donna (Ralph) Powell and a sister-in-law, Sandy Drollinger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Angeline Lamar, a brother, John Lamar, sisters, Margaret Becker and Mary Lewis, a son-in-law, Randy Jackson and a grandson, Reece Adams.
A service to honor Donald's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Houghton-Leasure Chapel, 200 E West Street Georgetown Illinois, on Monday, October 20.
