Donald L. "Mac" McDaniel, 87, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:23 am, Saturday, February 10, 2018, at his home. He was born on December 10, 1930, in Tangier, IN, the son of Forrest Clifford & Della (Taylor) McDaniel. He was united in marriage for 63 years to Patricia J "Patti" Patchett on Friday, August 13, 1954. She survives. He will be dearly missed by his three sons, Randy, Rick & Rod McDaniel; daughter, Kala Jo (Eric) Winland; grandchildren, Parker, Emilee, Alec & Cameron Winland; brothers, Keith (Jane) & Wayne (Joan) McDaniel; sisters, Betty (Henry) Jackowski, Ruth (Don) Callahan, Shirley (Ralph) McCown; many nieces & nephews. Donald was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers, Kenneth & Larry McDaniel; sisters, Ailene Hillary and Esther Lahne. Don served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He operated Rogers Cartage in Danville, with his 18 Semis transporting chemicals across the United States and Canada. In addition, he was a heavy equipment operator and owned McDaniel Construction. He built ponds all around the area. Don loved the outdoors and was always there to help a neighbor in need. Don and Patti raised and trained quarter horses at their home, Rocky River Ranch located in Olivet. His pride and joy was a beautiful AQHA champion stallion, named Majestic Forrest. Don enjoyed traveling in his motor coach with Patti, the love of his life. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Don was a cancer survivor and once survived a near fatal accident while tearing down an old school in Vermilion Grove, when a brick wall fell on him. He had a contagious smile, and enjoyed a good laugh. Don was a fighter and enjoyed life to the fullest. Don shall be honored with cremation rights through Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. There will be no services or visitation per his request.
