Donald W. Graves, 95, of Danville died January 14, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Palliative Care Unit. He was born in Waubay, South Dakota on February 21, 1921, the son of Clifford and Alta (Watkins) Graves. He married Helen Borman of Clinton, Iowa in 1943. Donald is survived by son, Dennis (Jodi) Graves of Highlands, NC; daughters, Donna (John) Guggemos of Westfield, IN, Patricia Edington of Bismarck, IL, Jackie (Gary) Hangebrauck of Cayuga, IN; brothers, Jack and Bob Graves; sisters, Lois Masters and Donna Moreland; grandchildren, John and Patrick Graves; Britt Guggemos, Bree Guggemos Drapa, Jill Edington Rodgers, Justin Edington, Clint Hangebrauck and eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and a son-in-law, Paul Edington. He attended schools in Peoria, IL. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 1, 1940 for service in Hawaii. He was a member of the 72nd bombardment squadron in the South Pacific as a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Donald worked at Du Pont in Clinton, IA for six years; then at Olin Corporation for 32 years as safety and protection supervisor in Covington, IN. He retired on December 15, 1982. Don loved sports of all kinds, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, boating and doing wood working. Don was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and the VFW Post 782. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, whose happiest moments were spending time with his family. A Mass of Christian Burial for Donald will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Bo Schmitt officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834.
