Donald F. Meeker

Lodi, Ind. -- Donald F. Meeker, 86, of Lodi, passed away at 2:15 p.m. CST Friday, January 22, 2010 at the V.A. Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois. He was born June 12, 1923 in Cayuga, Indiana, the son of the late Fred and Nellie Alice Sturm Meeker. He married Lucy Ellen Holycross on March 10, 1951. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Sis(Dick)Keller of Cayuga, Indiana; seven grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; one brother, Pete Meeker of Georgetown, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Neoma Wills; one sister and three brothers. Donald retired from Schomburg & Schomburg Construction in Danville, Illinois as a cement finisher. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army in Campaigns at Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland. He received the EAME with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Donald was a member of the Cayuga American Legion Rainbow Post #263. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. Funeral services: 1 P.M. EST Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Jack Wilburn; Burial: Miller Cemetery in Lodi, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Cayuga American Legion Rainbow Post #263; Visitation: 11 A.M. EST until time of services Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the funeral home.
