Donald Everette Restad

Champaign Donald E. "Don" Restad passed peacefully in his sleep to go to his heavenly home to be with our precious Lord on Friday, December 14, 2018, after having been blessed with 89 years. This humble, honest, amazing devoted husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend will be greatly missed, but those that loved him rejoice that he is now receiving the reward of Gods holy presence.

Don was a very active member and Elder of University Place Christian Church for over 40 years. He proudly served as Airman First Class in the U.S.A.F. serving in Korea and Japan. Don received a Letter of Commendation for his excellent technical knowledge assistance and devotion of duty. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force and graduated from Air University U.S.A.F. Air Command and Staff College, given at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. Don served as a civilian instructor and later a Block Supervisor at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL. Don and his wife Betty provided care for children at their family run daycare center for over 40 years before retiring.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Henry Restad and Clara B. Nolting Restad; twin sisters Irene (Vernon) Hanson and Erma (Ernie) Haugen; nephew Eldon Haugen; and extended family members of the Slininger family in MN. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Betty L. Restad, the love of his life that he shared 64 years of wonderful marriage as of October 28, 2018; devoted children and their families Becky Restad of Champaign, Cathy (Mark) Harms of Champaign, Keith (Susan) Restad of Champaign; sister Norma Sittko of Fargo, ND; 4 nephews and their families; 9 loving grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A private graveside committal with military rites will be held in Dons honor at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Deborah Owen will officiate. Our family would like to thank the staff at Champaign County Nursing Home and Harbor Light Hospice for their sincere care shown to dad. Memorial donations may be made in Dons name to the Parkinsons Foundation. Please join his family in sharing memories, photos, and videos on his tribute wall at sunsetfuneralhome.com.
