Donald Eugene 'Gene' Dobkins

Danville- Donald Eugene "Gene" Dobkins, 81, of Danville passed away at 4:30 am on August 23, 2017 at Heritage Health in Hoopeston, IL. "Gene" was born on September 27, 1935 in Hoopeston, IL the son of John and Cornelia (Howard) Dobkins. He was formerly married to Ellen Jennetta (Catron) Dobkins. Survivors include his two sons, Martin "Marty" (Abby) Dobkins and Marvin (Amber "Jeanie") Dobkins both of Hoopeston, IL, five grandchildren, Brad Dobkins, Sabrina Dobkins, Jeramy Dobkins, Joshua Dobkins and Jessica (Michael) Davis, one great granddaughter, Lydia Davis, special friends, Tom Hanks, Jim Warfield and Bob Mooney as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. "Gene" was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, one infant son, one brother, Richard "Bud" Dobkins as well as three sisters, Helen Schroeder, Arvetta Morgenson and Ada Gooden. "Gene" was a forklift operator for American Can in Hoopeston for over 36 years. In his younger days he enjoyed racing go-karts, riding his motorcycles and spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 1st at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Andrew Martin will officiate. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
