Donald E. Longstreth, 77, of Oakwood, went to be with his Lord at 11:20 p.m. Friday, August 3rd, 2012, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, Illinois. Don was born on February 20th, 1935, in Oakwood, Illinois, the son of Oral and Vera (Poll) Longstreth. He previously married LaVerne Swanberg on December 31st, 1960, in Oakland, California. She survives. He is survived by two daughters- April (Bill) Armstrong of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Ellen (John) Greenan II of Petersburg, Illinois; two grandchildren- Hannah Armstrong and Chelsea Greenan; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters- Patricia Carper and Jean Hughes. Don graduated from Oakwood Township High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1957 and served until 1959. He graduated from Oakland City College in 1960. Don worked at Hyster and General Motors as an electrician. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Don enjoyed working on cars, repairing electronics, finding and fixing old treasures. A Celebration of the life of Donald E. Longstreth will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8th, 2012 at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel, with Pastor Scott McCurdy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post #210. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or to the Oakwood Public Library.
