Preceding Don in death include both of his parents, one brother; Robert Dean (Ethel) Johnson, one sister; Agnes Victoria Johnson, one granddaughter; Jennifer Louise Johnson, and his first wife, Rosetta Elizabeth (Anglin) Johnson. He also leaves behind a large extended family, including scores of nieces and nephews whom he always treated as his own, as well as his extended church family and many close friends.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy. A savvy businessman, he owned and operated Econ-O-Way Roofing & Siding out of Ogden, Illinois for 35 years (now Econ-O-Way Construction out of Fairmount, Illinois, ran by his oldest son, Donald) and then Econ-O-Way Used Cars out of Ogden, Danville and Oakwood, Illinois, until his retirement in 2015. A man of extraordinary faith, Don was an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene. He would often say "He wrote it, I read it, I believe it, so that settles it!" Don formally officiated over the Church of the Nazarene in Sidney, Illinois, served as an associate pastor in many of the local Nazarene churches and traveled to perform evangelical services. An avid fisherman, Don enjoyed sharing his love of the water with his loving wife, Carolyn, and his fishing trips to Canada with his family. Don was very active in his church and his community. His other hobbies included spending weekends at the lake with his family, riding his motorcycle with Carolyn, traveling, spending time with his cherished children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, sharing his faith in God and his strong belief in family values, and his Friday morning breakfasts with his second oldest, Mike. Don also enjoyed hunting with his children up until his occupational accidents limited his mobility. A jack of all trades, Don passed on many skills and a strong work ethic to his children, giving them the tools to succeed and teaching them how to work hard, and play harder! He also enjoyed reminiscing about the "good ol days" and listening to stories from his children about the memories that he had helped to create. Don was very proud of the family that he raised. He would often comment that he may not be wealthy, but that he was certainly rich. Thanks to him, so are we!

Don never met a stranger. He will always be remembered for his love of God, his church and his country, and for the many sacrifices that he made in efforts to help others. He would always say "You cant out-give God." He is and will forever be loved and missed, leaving a remarkable print on our lives and a void in our hearts.
