Donald 'Don' Russell, Jr.

Donald Russell Jr., 45, of Urbana passed away on April 6, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on June 23, 1975 in Danville, Illinois.

His parents Donald (Gladys) Russell and Loretta (Tim) Carter survive him. Also surviving Don includes his sister Sara (Jimmy) Williams and step-sisters April (Kent) Maskel and LeAnn(Chris) Gallion; his uncles Ron Russell, Gilbert (Carole) Lybrook, Dale Kevin (Cindy) Lybrook, Mike (Marla) Russell and aunts Connie Russell, Terri (Don) Vandercook, and Rosemary (David) French; very special friend Woody Hughes, and his best friend and loyal companion Nukka. He will also be missed by many cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Roy and Mary Russell and Don and Mary Jane Lybrook, and his uncle Bill Redman.

Don enjoyed HAM radio and the many amateur radio clubs he had joined along his journeys. Don was a broadcast engineer for his entire career, but most recently at the University of Illinois WILL. He spent a good portion of his life as a first responder. He was a "Mr. Fix-It" by nature and even spent time in Panama building an internet infrastructure. He was known for his sense of humor and his quick wit. He loved music, computers, and aviation. Don had a heart of gold and was generous with his time and resources.

A memorial service will take place in Dons honor on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville.
