Donald "Don" E. Mowers

Danville – Donald E. “Don” Mowers, 66, of Danville passed away at 9:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on December 16, 1959, in Spring Valley, IL to Francis L. and Luticia A. (Johnson) Mowers. He married Wendy L. Downing on October 19, 1991, in Bismarck. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Meghan (Dustin) Gerrity of Homer, IL; twin sister, DeAnna (Ward) Hall of Perrysville, IN; as well as several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law, cousins, and his 4-legged Daughter Dixie who he absolutely loved and spoiled.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Joyce Miles, and his mother and father-in-law, David and Alice Downing.

Don was a long-time member of the Elks, first with the former Danville Elks 332 and then transferring to Champaign-Urbana Elks #2497. His Elks Family meant a lot to him, as well as the good work the Elks Community did. From The Veterans to the Children, Don’s desire to serve in this capacity was always high on his Priority List. He was also a Member of the Lions Club in Bismarck, IL and was always there to help with the Pancake Breakfast and Fish Fry. He loved his family immensely and was always there to help anyone in need.

A service to celebrate the life of Don Mowers will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834. Pastor Terry Goodwin will officiate. Cremation and burial at Danville National Cemetery will follow at a later date. Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 2 PM on Saturday prior to the service, also at Sunset in Danville. Memorials in his name may be made to the Children's Care Corporation though the Elks or National Veterans Service-Illinois Elks Association
