Donald Davis

Covington, IN - Donald A. Davis, 85, of Covington passed away at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Waters of Covington. He was born on October 31, 1930 in Danville, IL to Albert "Shorty" and Mary Davis. He first married Marian Moreman with whom he had two children. He later married Edith Taylor Dennis on January 23, 1985 in Florida. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Donnie Davis of Indianapolis; a sister, Bernice (Bill) Grubb of Covington; four grandchildren, Alison (Bernie) Berry, Tricia (David) Williams, Eric (Misty) Davis, and Brad (Kristen) Davis; five great-grandchildren, Alex Berry, Mason Williams, Abbey and Maddey Davis, and Logan Davis; three step-children, Cindy (David) Brown of Covington, Jeff (Diane) Dennis of Covington, and Gregg (Tammy) Dennis of Louisville, KY; nine step-grandchildren, Megan Brown, Ashley Brown, Courtney (Craig) Woodfill, Jenny (Jon) Schaefer, Taylor (Brittany) Dennis, Katie (Zach Fields) Dennis, Adam (Kaitlyn) Dennis, Drew Dennis, and Derek Dennis; and five step-great grandchildren, Colby and Marley Schaefer, Hank Dennis, and Creighton and Crew Woodfill. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles "Chuck" Davis, and seven siblings, Joe Davis, Laverne Allen, Rose Marie Whakefield, Lloyd Davis, Carle Davis, Deloris Heckerson, and Nellie McCoy. Don was a graduate of Fairmount High School and attended Purdue University. Although he was a lifelong farmer, he never worked a day because he loved what he did. He owned and operated Davis Farms and Davis Machines and was an agricultural innovator and inventor, even holding several patents. Aside from farming, Don also loved to travel to Reno and Las Vegas. He spent his winters in Naples, FL where he did plenty of fishing. Most importantly, Don loved his family and enjoyed attending his grandkid's baseball games. As a regular at the Beef House, Don especially enjoyed seeing his friends and having Mary and Phyllis wait on him every day. He always said Bob and Bonnie Wright treated him like family. A service to celebrate the life of Don Davis will be held at 2:00 PM ET on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Sunset's Covington Chapel, 420 3rd St., Covington, IN. Pastor Joe Humrichous will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 - 2 PM prior to the service on Monday, also at Sunset. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
