Donald Blackford

Donald Blackford, 99, of Danville, IL passed away at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville at 3:38 AM on November 22, 2025.

Don was born on February 9, 1926 the son of William J and Bess (Farnsworth) Blackford in Danville, IL. He cherished 71 years of marriage with his wife Kathryn Marie Metz, whom he married on May 9, 1948 in Danville, IL. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2020.

Survivors include his son, James Blackford of Danville; daughters, Susan Blackford of Milwaukee, WI, Donna (Ron) Stewart of Ridge Farm; beloved grandchildren, Travis (Mandy) Cunningham, Jessica (James) Hagley, Stephen (Beth) Blackford, Eric (Kayla) Blackford, Melissa (Victor) Osborne; great-grandchildren, Alex Hagley, Katie Hagley, Lucas Hagley, Brenden Cunningham, Rycelyn Cunningham and Isaac Blackford, Emmett Osborne and Parker Blackford as well as special friend Kim Olds.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kathryn Blackford and one daughter, Laurie Malone.

Don graduated from Bismarck High School and enlisted and served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He later served in Korea during the Korean War for the United States Army. He attended Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church and often quietly helped out lending a hand to anyone in need. He loved to travel, and he enjoyed spending his free time reading, fishing, boating, and gardening.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
