Don W. Stevenson

Hillsdale, Ind. - Don W. Stevenson, 86, of Hillsdale, passed away at 3:05 a.m. EDT Saturday, May 1, 2021 at his residence.

He was born July 19, 1934 in Cayuga, Indiana the son of the late Lucille F. (Kilgore) George and Ellsworth Stevenson.

Don Married Mary Belle Sutliff on August 15, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2002.

Survivors include his daughter: Donna Hauger Stevenson of Hillsdale, Indiana; grandson: Allan Hauger of Hillsdale, Indiana; five step grandchildren; Cindy, Kim, Scott, Leslie and Missy; sister: Delores Hartman of Cayuga, Indiana; sister-in-law: Marlene Stevenson of Hillsdale, Indiana, several nieces, nephews, and long time friend: Marcia Reece of Jasonville, Indiana.

Don was preceded in death by his sister: Dixie Lee Stevenson; brother: Dorwin Stevenson; half brother: Curtis Wayne George; step sister: Marcella Stucker; step brother: John Wesley George; brother-in-law who was just like a brother: Don Hartman; step granddaughter: Terri, and the best guy Don ever knew: Butch Burton (And his surviving sons: Frank, Jeff and Ben.)

Don worked as a crane operator in Indianapolis before retirement. He was a member of the Operators Local 103 in Indianapolis, Plainfield Masonic Lodge 653 F&AM and a 1953 graduate of Cayuga High School. Don enjoyed gardening, yard work, attending his daughter's horse events, fishing with his grandson, go to car show events, having coffee with his friends at the local coffee shops and talking and visiting with his many friends from the Local 103. Don formerly owned Kenny's Tavern in Hillsdale, Indiana. Anyone that knew Don couldn't resist his infectious smile. He will be deeply missed.

Graveside services and burial: 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Officiating: Ashton Stewart; Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana. Masonic rites will be held following visitation.
