Don Thomas Sherman

Don Thomas Sherman, 87, of Georgetown passed away at 11:05 a.m. Friday August 5, 2011 at the VA Illiana Health Care System. He was born on July 4, 1924 in Georgetown IL the son of Thomas B. and Myrtle (Neal) Sherman. He married Shirley M. Haley on September 14, 1974 in Georgetown, IL. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Terry (Yvonne) Sherman of Ridge Farm, his daughter, Rosalinda (Jim) Froeschle of Bradenton, FL, his two stepsons, James Sumner of Danville and David Lee (Brenda) Sumner of Bismarck; his grandchildren, Michael Miller of N.C., Stefanie Hjalmervik of VA, Brock Sherman of Indianapolis, IN, Randall Froeschle of Chicago, Shannon Eastwood of Covington, James Sumner of Danville, Kyle Hathaway of Bismarck, and Zach Sumner of Bismarck, his nine great-grandchildren, two brothers, Lynn (Hilda) Sherman of Georgetown and Lee (Roseanne) Sherman of Georgetown. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Carroll Sherman and one sister, Marjorie Manganello. Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Air Force. He served six years in the Navy during WWII and later served twenty years in the Air Force, including serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church, the American Legion Dornblaser Post 203 in Georgetown. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge. Don was an avid fisherman. A celebration of Don's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday August 8, 2011 at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Chapel. Pastor Matt Filicsky will officiate. He will be laid to rest in Forest Park Cemetery in Georgetown. American Legion Dornblaser Post 203 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. Monday prior to the services with Masonic Rites being held at 11:45 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
