Dolores Irene Smelser

Dolores Irene Smelser, age 76 of Georgetown, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 at 12:10 AM at Pleasant Meadows Nursing Home in Chrisman. She was born August 23, 1939 in Bloomingdale, IN the daughter of Louis and Thelma (Sowers) Frost. She married Virgil Ferrante on December 24, 1960 in Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1987. Irene is survived by her children, Julie (Gary) Beaver of Westville and Tony R. (Cathy) Ferrante of Paris; stepchildren, Kevin (Carla) Ferrante of Montezuma and Kyle Ferrante of Indiana and their children and grandchildren; grandchildren, Brian (Tammy) Beaver, Alicia (Blake) Coartney, and Michael (Brittny) Ferrante; great-grandchildren, Daniel Beaver II, Addysen and Lexis McDaniel; brother, Greg Frost of Oregon; special friends, Mabel Boernson, Colleen Becker, Edith Whitkanack, and Edith Promozic. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Virgil, daughter, Nicole Leann Ferrante, grandson, Daniel Beaver, sister, Mary Lou Esgate, and brothers, James, Leroy, and Michael Frost. Irene had attended South Side Church of the Nazarene with her family and was a past member of Olivet Nazarene Church. She did housekeeping for several families in the area and worked as a caregiver at various places. Her job she was most proud of was being a wife and mother. Her children and grandchildren were her life. Irene was also a very good neighbor and loved her flowers in her garden. Above all, she loved the Lord with all her heart. A celebration of Irene's life will be held Friday, December 18, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown. Pastor James Blue will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials in Irene's name can be made to Pleasant Meadows Nursing Home.
