Dixie Arnold

Dixie Rae Arnold, 79, was born on January 27, 1946, to Katherine Grimes Kelly and Clyde M. (Max) Kelly. She spent her childhood in Russellville, Indiana, where she graduated from Russellville High School. Dixie cherished her high school memories, having been a cheerleader and an active participant in 4H. In 1964, she married Hurshel Norton and started a family, relocating to Darlington, Indiana. There, she became involved in Bridge Club and the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 302, serving multiple elected positions from 1974 thru 1979 including President (1975-76). She made many lifelong friends in Darlington and spent many summers gardening, camping, fishing, and boating. Being a small town, many remember Dixie as a familiar face at the local Post Office. Eventually, she secured a full-time position at the Crawfordsville Post Office and retired from there in 2001. Dixie and Hurshel divorced, and she remarried David Arnold. Together, Dixie and Dave ran an antique business, Locust Hill, in the historic former O’Hair home near Greencastle.

Following Dave's passing, she relocated to Covington to be closer to her son and family, remaining in Covington until her health began to decline. Dixie is survived by her children: Lori (Damian) Mason, Lisa (Rob) Hudson, and Jason (Cameron) Norton, as well as her grandchildren: Alexandria Hudson, Joel Hudson, Evan Norton, and Michael Norton. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Kay (Dean) Lynch, and her nephew, Terry Shrout. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Kelly, and her nephew, Tom Kelly. Dixie's life was marked by her community engagement, treasured friendships, and a deep appreciation for history and antiques, leaving a significant legacy in the towns she cherished. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Heritage Pointe of Huntington and especially the health services team for the exceptional care she received during her time there.
