Diana Jo Gundrum Carey, 74, of Danville passed away at her home on March 4, 2023. She was born in Danville on February 20, 1949 to parents Mary Ann and Dr. Mark Gundrum. Raised in Westville, Diana attended St. Marys Grade School and was a graduate of Schlarman Academy.
Diana was a natural caretaker to those around her even in her youth, so it came as no surprise when she went to school to become a Registered Nurse. Her compassion and generosity aided her well in her 30 years of service as a nurse. She became the Director of Social Services at a local nursing home where she excelled at guiding patients and their families. She had a deep passion for not only her career, but also her family. She loved being a mom and a grandmother. She was always at the ready to lend advice or to simply listen to family and friends alike.
Diana was a woman of faith and a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville, where she also took part in the choir. In addition to being a wonderful singer, she was also a gifted artist.
Diana is survived by her children Kristin (Tom) DePratt of Danville; Ian Carey of Brazil, Indiana; and Reagan (Tony Tilghman) Carey of Charleston. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Clein, Mason, Gavin, Quinn, and Carrigan Gard and Ozias and Wilder Carey-Tilghman. Her sister Marcia Gundrum of Danville and nephew Ryan (Elizabeth) Morgan of Denver will also miss her greatly.
She has been reunited in death with her parents, her older sister Launie Morgan, and Uncle John Mattone.
A Memorial Mass in her honor will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Pauls Catholic Church, located at 1303 N. Walnut in Danville. Father Szydlik will be leading Mass. She will then be placed to rest at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery with her parents. A gathering of friends will take place following the services on Saturday at the Motsett Center. Please share fond memories, condolences, and photos with Dianas family on her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
