Derek Ray Carter

Champaign - Derek Ray Carter, 28, passed away at 5:38 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on December 8, 1987 in Indianapolis, IN to Darren Carter and Laurel (Symon) Hester. He was engaged to Kailey Black. He is survived by two children, Wesson and Warren Carter; mother, Laurel Hester and Stepfather, Keith Hester of Champaign, and father, Darren Carter of Indianapolis; fianc, Kailey Black; brother, Michael (Melissa) Hester of Birmingham, AL and sister, Delaine (Dustin Anderson) Hester of Champaign; and an uncle, Joe Symon. Derek was an auto mechanic at J & T's Automotive Specialists and loved building his own race car and drag racing. He also enjoyed fishing and cooking and will be remembered for his jokes and wonderful sense of humor. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Derek Carter will be held from 2-6 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the American Legion Post #24 at 705 Bloomington Rd. Champaign, IL 61820.
