Dennis Smith,83, a devoted husband, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on May 29, 2026, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Williamsport, Indiana. Born on April 12, 1943, in Danville, Illinois, Dennis lived a life marked by dedication, faith, and a deep love for his family and community.
Dennis honorably served for UPS for 30 years, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment that earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. A man of faith, he was an active member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Covington, where his Christian values guided his daily life and relationships.
Known for his passions, Dennis enjoyed spending time driving his Corvette and riding his motorcycle, enjoyed watching Sprint Cars and NASCAR races, and found joy in working diligently in his garden. These interests reflected a vibrant spirit and a zest for life that those who knew him treasured.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Gebbink) Smith; his sons Dan (Tammy) Smith, David (Cindy) Smith, Mick (Niki) Smith, and Eric (Jodi) Smith; and his cherished grandchildren Kayla Golightly, Kylie Smith, Shane Smith, Heagen Wickens, Josh Smith, and Adison Alward. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Jacob, Emma, Mason, Easton, Valerie, Jocelyn, Kaylie, Aubrey, Mabel, Millie, Frankie, Edith, Ashton, Salem, Blair, and Sebastian. Another great-grandson will be arriving in October.
Additionally, he is survived by his sister Shelia (Jerry) Walters.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Sally; his granddaughter Jasmine Reindl; and his sisters Sherri and Sheryl Smith. Their memories continue to hold a special place in the hearts of all who loved him.
Friends and family are invited to honor Dennis’s life during visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. est. on June 2, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., est. both held at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 215 N Division St, Cayuga, Indiana. These gatherings offer a time for reflection, remembrance, and celebrating a life well-lived.
