Newport, Ind. -- Dennis Lee Sowers, 60, of Newport, passed away at 7:38 a.m. EST Tuesday (December 26, 2006) at West Central Community Hospital in Clinton, Indiana. He was born November 26, 1946, in Judson, Indiana, the son of Roscoe and Martha Jane Pearman Sowers. He married Lucinda Jane Robertson on October 14, 1967 in Newport, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include: one daughter, Tammy Lynn(Ryan)Irby of Georgetown, Illinois; two sons, Paul Terry(Jeanna)Sowers of Eugene, Indiana and Todd Eric(Niki Pasley)Sowers of Westville, Illinois; his mother, Martha Jane Sowers of Newport, Indiana; five grandchildren, Anthony James Sowers, Marguerite Jane Sowers, Addison Lynn Sowers, Makayla Peplow, Kendra Pasley and one soon to be grandchild; one brother, Clifford D.(Helen)Sowers of Newport, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Elsie Ann Allen. Dennis worked at General Motors Foundary in Tilton, Illinois for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving four years active duty and two years in reserves. He was a member of the American Legion in Indianapolis, Indiana and a life member of the North American Fishing Club. He was currently serving on the Newport Town Board. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He attended the Newport Church of God. Dennis worked as a farm hand for most of his life. He enjoyed horse pulling, playing poker with his boys, softball and bowling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EST Saturday, December 30, 2006 at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Tony Taylor and Pastor John Hawkins; Burial: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana with military graveside rites; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EST Friday, December 29, 2006 at the funeral home.
