Dennis James Whitington

Dennis James Whitington, 65, of Danville passed away on August 30, 2021. Jim was born on September 21, 1955 in Danville, the youngest son of Charles and Ella (Collins) Whitington. He married Charlotte Landon on November 24, 1999. She survives.

Jim leaves behind his two daughters; Trina Whitington and Kayla Anderson, three stepchildren; Mark Smiley, Matt (Sarah) Smiley and Ashley (Ricky) Vaughn, six grandchildren; Carlito Whitington, Anya Anderson, Haley and Wyatt Smiley and Maverick and Demi Vaughn, one sister Barb (Shank) White and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by one infant daughter Karen Whitington, his parents Charles and Ella (Collins) Whitington and nine siblings: Charles Whitington, Naomi Feezor, Russell Whitington, John Collins, Larry Whitington, Terry Whitington, Gary Whitington, Ronnie Whitington and Danny Whitington.

Jim retired from Danville Corrections after 25 years. He then enjoyed working as a Pilot driver for oversize loads, Jim loved to drive. He enjoyed playing cards and Bingo in his off time. Most of all, Jim loved the time he spent with his family.

A Celebration of Jims life will be Friday, September 3, 2021 at 4pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Westville, Illinois, 414 S. State St. Westville, Illinois 61883. Officiating will be Reverend Ann Schwartz. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be held two hours prior at the funeral home 2-4pm.
