Dennis 'Denny' Lee Hess

Dennis "Denny" Lee Hess, 70, of Merrill, WI, formerly of Danville, IL passed away at 12:04 AM on Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home in Merrill, WI. Denny was born on June 6, 1946 the son of Walter and Lois "Pauline" (Watson) Hess in Washington, DC. He married Sondra Daniels on May 25, 1967, Winifred Piatt on April 22, 1977 and Gloria Sirmons on November 14, 2015. Denny served his country as a Radio Operator in the United States Navy from January 3, 1966 until October 1, 1969 and attained the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was a retired truck driver for Kraft Foods and enjoyed spending his free time playing golf, watching NASCAR, Illinois football and basketball, the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Denny is survived by his wife, Gloria of Merrill, WI, his two sons; Clay (Teri) Hess of Aniwa, WI and Chad (Carla) Hess of Grenada, MS. A brother Gary (Linda) Hess of Danville, IL, and a sister Kathy (Bruce) Ross of Danville, IL. Several step-children: Wes (Tammy) Howard of Danville, IL, Terry (Nancy) Howard of Westville, IL, Lori (Dan) Huebner of Cedar Creek, NE, Connie (John) McKenna of Merrill, WI, John Hlava of Abilene, TX, Randy Neumann of Abilene, TX, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Winnie. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at South Side Church of Christ located at 611 South Forrest Street in Danville. Officiating will be Clay Hess and Kevin Ziegler. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 3940 N. Vermilion Street Danville, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the South Side Church of Christ in Danville, IL.
