Denise Byrd

Denise D. Byrd, of Mahomet IL, passed away with her family by her side at 8:40pm on August 23, 2023, at her home.

Denise was born on July 5, 1953, to Thomas and Dorothy Brewer of Mahomet, IL. She met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Jack Byrd, and was married on July 15, 1972, in Mahomet, IL. He will miss her dearly.

Together Jack and Denise share two children, Erica (Rob) Crowe of Mahomet, IL. and Brandon (Melissa) Byrd of Mahomet, IL. They have five grandchildren: Bridgett (JD) Zindars, Mackenzie and Madison Byrd, and Hunter and Cameron Crowe.

She is survived by her brother, Barry (Evelyn) Brewer of Golconda, IL and mother-in-law, Lois Byrd, of Mansfield, IL.

Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas, and Dorothy Brewer; her granddaughter, Mackenzie Byrd; her grandparents, Homer and Mamie Keller and Walter and Mary Brewer; and her father-in-law, Richard Byrd.

Denise attended Mahomet-Seymour High School and graduated in 1971. She worked at the University of Illinois in the secretarial field. She left there to become a stay-at-home mom when they had children. In 1998, she started working at JD Byrider as a collection manager. After 21 years, she retired in 2019. She loved watching her family live life, whether it be watching her grandchildren play football, baseball, soccer, cross country, track, and marching band. She was always there cheering them on. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, trips to Arthur and the Covered Bridge Festival.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 5:00-7:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1102 Churchill Rd, Mahomet, IL. The funeral service will be at 11:30am on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. She will be laid to rest at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign, IL.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Mackenzie Byrd Memorial Scholarship Fund that is held at Fisher National Bank.
