Delmer H Powell Sr.

Delmer H. Powell Sr., 85, of Danville, passed away at 5:20am, Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Presence USMC, Danville. Born on February 7, 1931, to Isaac and Mille {Morrow} Powell. He was united in marriage to Margaret Reik on April 1, 1952, and celebrated 64 years together. She will miss him dearly. He will also be missed by: his daughter, Lisa (Marvin Mathius) Lewis; his sisters, June Kutchel, & Beveline Danner; his daughter-in-law, Lore Powell; his four granddaughters; his one grandson; and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Delmer "Dusty" Powell Jr; four brothers; and three sisters. Delmer attended a one room school house, Bunker Hill, and Henning High School where he played basketball and baseball. He worked at the F.L. Jacobs Plant in Danville and later worked at the VA Medical Center for 27 years. Delmer served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Sons of the American Revolution, and a descendent of George Washington Valley Forge. He enjoyed archery and was Illinois State Champion in Target Bow. A celebration of Delmer's life will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, June 17, 2016, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, with Pastor Kent Tibben officiating. Visitation will be held 11am-1pm, Friday, June 17, 2016, at the funeral home prior to his service. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, with Military honors conducted by the Westville American Legion Post #51. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Delmer's name to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Legion.
