OAKWOOD- Dee Shaffer, 77, of Oakwood passed away Sunday July 6, 2014 at North Logan Health Care Center in Danville. Born December 17, 1936 in Chicago, he was the son of Charles and Wilma (Driskell) Shaffer. He married Bunny Weiss on November 11, 1957 in Riverdale, Illinois. Dee was a Field Representative for the Social Security Administration, retiring in 1989. He was a little league coach in Oakwood for many years, and was on the Board of Directors for Vermilion County Red Cross. He was a member of the Columbus Club at the Knights of Columbus, and the Turtle Club. Dee collected boogie woogie records for over 50 years and enjoyed playing ping pong. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bunny; three children, Susan (Christian) Easton of Bloomington, IN, Jack Shaffer of Rantoul, IL, and Sharon Richardson of Oakwood, IL; one sister, Kay Trevarthen of Glenview, IL; three grandchildren, Christopher Richardson, Shanelle (David) Huffman and Colten Hackman; one great grandson, Madden Huffman; and special friends, Don Porter and Ron Schultz. Dee was preceded in death by his parents. A service to celebrate Dees life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel, A Life Celebration Home in Oakwood with Don Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Stearns Cemetery, Fithian. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday. Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association and C.A.R.A. (Citizens for Animal Rescue and Adoption) in Tilton.
