Debbie Ann Barnes Catron

Danville - Our angel has flown to heaven to walk hand in hand with her dad and sister Sharon. Debbie Ann Barnes Catron, 64 of Danville lost her eight-year struggle with Transverse Myelitis on Wednesday, October 12, 2017. She was born January 7, 1953, the daughter of Jack & Ramona (Nicoson) Barnes in Danville. Debbie attended Elmwood School, Cannon School, East Park and Danville High School. She received her Bachelors and Masters in Education and Teaching Administration from Eastern Illinois University. Her passion was teaching. She taught in District 118 for thirty-five years, first grade at Roselawn and fourth grade at Garfield School. She received numerous teaching awards and was loved by her "kids" (students) and fellow teachers alike. Her Facebook page is a testimony to the effect she had on so many of her kids with their kind words and tributes. Even while confined to bed for the last eight years, she continued to send supplies to the school for the kids at Garfield that could not afford them. Debbie is survived by her mother, Ramona Barnes, Daughter, Amy (Jamie) McCarty and three grandchildren Jordan, Deacon and Londyn of San Antonio Texas, Her loving brother and care giver Rick Barnes of Danville, brother Jack Barnes of Bedford, Indiana, aunts Mary Ann Laub, Judy Jennings and uncles Gene Barnes, Richard Nicoson as well as many cousins. Deb also leaves behind two very loving caregivers Casey Cyphers and April Hack. Debbie was preceded in death by her father Jack, sister Sharon, grandparents; Theodore and Thelma Nicoson and John & Harietta Barnes as well as many aunts, and cousins. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Rod Godley will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the funeral home.
