Covington, Ind. - Dean Curtis, 82, of Covington, went to heaven at 5:05 a.m. EDT Friday, March 27, 2015 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He was born October 8, 1932 in Silverwood, Indiana, the son of the late Norval "Cricket" and Daisy Melton Curtis. He married Rosie M. Wilson on September 12, 1952 at the Stringtown Church of God south of Covington. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Deanetta(Jim)Jordan of Dayton, Nevada; Sandra Kay Rice of Euless, Texas; Phillip Wayne(Karen)Curtis of Franklin, Indiana; Tammy(Gregg)Dennis and Carol(Steven)Allen both of Louisville, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; one step-grandson; seven great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his three sisters, Genevieve Lee Clingan; Beverly E. Jones and Barbara Coffing and two brothers, Norval C. Curtis and Luther Melton. Dean first worked at Leverenz Automotive for ten years then later worked at Flexel Corporation as a manager for the store room until his retirement in 1989. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War where he served as field communications chief for A Battery, 554TH AAA Missile Battalion at Fort MacArthur in California. Dean was a 1950 graduate of Cayuga High School. He attended the First Baptist Church in Covington and was a member of the Perrysville American Legion Post #350. He enjoyed golfing and taking walks. Dean was especially a big Chicago Cubs fan. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Monday, March 30, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 518 5th Street, Covington, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Andy Harkelroad; Burial: Coal Creek Cemetery south of Covington with military graveside rites by the Perrysville American Legion Post #350; Visitation: Sunday, March 29, 2015 from 4 to 6 p.m. EDT and one hour prior to services on Monday at the First Baptist Church.
