Deakon Layne Hanner, born November 18, 2004, in Danville, Illinois, passed away on June 29, 2026, in Lakewood, Washington. Residing in Washington since 2023.
Deakon was known to all as the most selfless, most giving, biggest heart ever of a human being to ever meet. He didn’t know a stranger. Deakon cussed worse than a sailor but was also extremely sarcastic with humor and love behind it. His warmth and energy left a deep impression on his family, friends, and in the community he cherished. He had an unwavering diligence; those close to him will remember his work ethic and how he would drop anything and everything for whomever needed it, spending hours/days to get something finished and never asked for anything. He just wanted the company.
From a young age, Deakon found his passion underneath the hood of a car. For him, cars were more than machines—they were lifelong companions for exploration and achievement. He became a talented mechanic, devoting himself to perfecting his craft, whether in the garage or on the street. Street racing and working on cars were more than hobbies; they were integral to his identity and the way he forged lasting friendships and community ties.
Deakon just left Kia of Tacoma to fulfill one of his lifelong dreams of opening his own shop Get Right Auto Works, in Lakewood, Washington, with a close friend. This milestone was a testament to his ambition and dedication, embodying both his technical skill and entrepreneurial spirit. He was also in the midst of building a 1000 horsepower Honda Civic—a dream project that showcased his expertise and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Deakon is survived by his loving parents, Gregory Hanner and Jessica Hanner; his brother, David (Tierra) Hanner; his sister, Ainsley (Jon) Blumberg; and his sister, Savanah Hanner. His legacy lives on in his nieces, Lucee Hanner and Meadow Blumberg, and his nephew, Bellamy Blue Blumberg. Deakon's memory is also held dearly by his grandparents: Gregory (Becky) Hanner, Marla Simmonds, Tina (Todd) Allison, Steve McBee, and Carl (Stacie) Rossiter. Deakon was super close with all of his cousins, and will be missed by all. Deakon had MANY special friends from Maryland(living there from 2006-2016), too many best friends in Illinois, to his recent friends and “family” in Washington. Deakon made a friend in everybody he talked to.
He is preceded in death by his special aunt, Darenda Curry. And is throwing unlimited “snowballs” with his family fur animals Tucker and Camden.
Deakon’s generous heart, relentless drive, and passion for life will be held close by his family and friends. He leaves behind not just memories of laughter and hard work, but also the bright example of someone who followed his own path and dared greatly.
A service will be held to honor Deakon’s life. Details regarding services will be provided by the family in the days to come.
Though Deakon’s time with us was far too short, the impact he left—through his craft, his kindness, and his devotion to those he loved—will endure in the hearts and lives of all who knew him.
