David Ray Weaver, 76, of Catlin, IL passed away at 3:46 PM on February 9, 2026 at Memorial Hospital Shilo in Shilo, IL.
David was born in Danville, IL on January 17, 1950 in Danville, IL the son of Merlin and Ruth A. (Yeats) Weaver. He married Cindy Carter on June 3, 1972 in Danville, IL and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Weaver of Catlin, IL, his four children, Bryan (Shannon) Weaver of Millstadt, IL, Brad (Jennifer) Weaver of Danville, IL, Blake (Angie) Weaver of St Joseph, IL and Amanda (Luke Smith) Weaver of Rossville, IL, seven grandchildren, Kaleb (Kylie) Weaver of Bismarck, IL, Dalton (Kyrsten) Weaver of Clinton, IL, Karley (Blake) Douglass of Rossville, IL, Logan Weaver of Millstadt, IL, Brayden (Kristen) Weaver of St Joseph, IL, Brody Weaver of St. Joseph, IL, Aubrey Weaver of Millstadt, IL and Ella Weaver of Millstadt, IL, ten great-grandchildren, Reagan, Grant David, Kennedy, Lincoln, Raymond and Archer Weaver and Rhett David Douglass. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan (David) Hastings and Tammy (Roger) Graham, brother-in-law, Jack Carter Jr. and several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Ruth Weaver, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marjorie and Jack Carter Sr. and sister-in-law, Cathy Thomason.
David grew up in the Central Park neighborhood, graduated from Danville High School in 1968 and earned his master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL in 1972. He taught school in the Shilo, Bismarck and Catlin School Districts from 1972-2005 and served as the Athletic Director for the Catlin School District from 1995-2005. During his years at the various school districts, he coached cross country, basketball and track.
After retirement, David worked at Glory Days Antiques and Uniques and built many friendships. In his free time he enjoyed golfing, the Four C’s (Cowboys, Cardinals, Celtics and Catlin) and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He loved spending time with his wife and listening to music from the 1960’s.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. David Hastings and Dalton Weaver will co-officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Catlin, IL. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2026 at the funeral home.
The family has requested that guests wear their favorite sports team to the visitation as sportswear was a big part of David's life.
