David Strebin

David J. Strebin, 64, of Danville passed away at 3:45PM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Presence USMC. He was born on September 11, 1951 to Jim and Doris (Seely) Strebin. He married Rosemary Kirk on May 25, 1974, she survives. Dave will be sadly missed by his wife Rosemary; father Jim; three children, Kassie (Lou) of St. Louis, MO; Kirk (Summer) of San Diego, CA; Kody of Danville; two grandchildren, Logan and Colin; along with his step-sisters, brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris; brother, Jack; and step-mother, Rose. Dave who was lovingly nicknamed Streb graduated from Illinois State University in 1974. He was a teacher for over 30 years in Danville District 118, the majority of this time spent teaching eighth grade algebra and P.E. at North Ridge Middle School. Streb enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching sports, he especially loved baseball. One of his proudest accomplishments was signing with the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants organizations. After baseball, he played a number of years for the Bullock Bulls fast pitch softball team, the Pub slow pitch softball team, and volleyball at the YMCA. His coaching career included DHS Baseball, DACC Baseball, DACC Softball, and many little league teams. Dave was proud to have both played and coached in an American Legion State Championship. Dave also enjoyed spending time with family, daily walks, gardening, and watching Danville Dan's Baseball games. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 210. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 2:00PM with an hour prior Visitation at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville (private entombment ceremony to follow). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24 from 4:00PM - 7:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (701 W. Vermilion St, Catlin, IL 61817).
