David R. Goodwin Sr.

David R. Goodwin Sr., 87, of Danville, Illinois passed away on May 1, 2010 at Provena USMC Logan Campus. David was born October 11, 1922 in Mayview, Illinois son of Elliott L. and Nellie (Swaringon) Goodwin. He was married to Dorothy Sears for 40 years and later married Irma Kutch Young in 1996. Survivors include wife Irma and son David R. Goodwin Jr., step son Ric Kutch and step daughter Chris Johnson; sisters: Bonnie Hendrickson and Shirley Kindy; granddaughter Jenna Goodwin, many nieces and nephews; special friends Don & Harley, his adopted mother Donna; and his beloved four legged buddy Dusty. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cecil and Wayne, and sisters Jean and Etta. David was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Japan from 1943-1946. He was a Journeyman Wireman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #601 and worked throughout the Midwest, including the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant. David was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Danville for twelve years, and also a member of the Danville Kiwanis where he worked every Pancake Day for many years. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Cardinal and Cubs fan. David loved people, had a great sense of humor, and considered himself a people person. A Celebration of Davids Life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-11 am Thursday morning at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be cremated per his wishes and laid to rest in Tolono, Illinois.
