David R. Mayer, 81, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020, at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living, Chrisman, IL, where he had been a resident since September 2015. David was born on April 20, 1939, in Danville, IL, the son of Ernest W. Mayer Sr. and Mary L. {Willis} Mayer. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Mayer, Sr. of Ohio, his mother, Mary L. Curtis of Georgetown, his stepfather, Francis Curtis of Danville, and his brother, Ernest W. Mayer, Jr. of Georgetown. He is survived by his son, Rusty Mingee of Georgetown; five brothers, Robert Mayer of Dayton, OH, Anthony Mayer of Middletown, OH, Carl Mayer of Katy, TX, George Curtis of Catlin, IL, and Steven Curtis of Randolph, WI, as well as two sisters, Judith Griffith of Ocala, FL and Susan Tressler of Franklin, OH. Also surviving are nieces, Lynette Shelton, Susan Gardner, Sydney Curtis, Lauren Curtis, and nephews, Matthew Brown, Philip Curtis, and Jeffrey Curtis. David attended elementary schools in Muncie, IL, and Danville, and Danville High School. He served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was employed several years at R&S Printing in Danville until they closed. The next several years, he was employed at B.E.S. Designs in Danville, until his retirement. He made his home in Georgetown until entering Pleasant Meadows in 2015. David was an avid follower of NASCAR and a die-hard fan of all things Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed country/western music and could name, from memory, singers and movie actors with skill. He was a gifted artist and was noted for beautiful paintings on velvet. In younger years, he enjoyed designing outdoor Christmas displays. David will be missed and was much loved. A Celebration of Davids life will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Georgetown, Illinois, 200 E. West St. Georgetown, IL 61846. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery.
