David L. Woolwine

Kingman, Ind. -- David Lloyd "Grumpy" Woolwine, 63, of Kingman, went to be with his Lord and Maker at 4:15 a.m. EST Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. David was born to Robert and Beulah Redenbaugh Woolwine on July 5, 1946 in Danville, Illinois. They preceded him in death. David graduated from the last class of Kingman High School in 1964. He entered the Army where he rode with the Old Guard on burial detail at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.. He spent one year in Vietnam finishing his tour of duty at the Pentagon. David retired from General Motors in Tilton, Illinois accumulating 31.5 years of service and acquiring mesotheleoma. David fought a very difficult and brave fight for 22 months. On the banks of the Wabash River, August 29, 1981 he married Penny Gaston. They were natural soul mates from the time they first met. She survives. Other survivors include his sons, Robert(Tasha Niccum) Woolwine of Newport, Indiana; Rick Remington of Kingman, Indiana and Shawn(Anita)Howard of Waveland, Indiana; grandson, Lane R. Woolwine of Cayuga, Indiana; sister, Latauna(Bruce)Martin of Veedersburg, Indiana; brothers, Terry"Doc"(Paula)Woolwine of West Lafayette, Indiana and Lt. Stephen(Anne)Woolwine of Kingman, Indiana; mother in law, Ruby Hope of Fithian, Illinos; brother in law, Tobi(Brandi)Hope of Arrowsmith, Illinois; sister in law, Jean Hope of Oakwood, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Also left to grieve are good friends Don(Jayne)Galyen, Pacia Whittington, Lori Coffing, Teresa Jeffers, Annie Woolwine, Patti Harlow, Tom(Teresa)Selby and Charlene Carey. David was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Remington; brother, Larry Bob and good friends, John Clore and Wayne Cadman. David had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting all game, fishing, mushrooming, rock hounding, boating, camping and caring for any animal in need. David was always willing to give someone a second chance to turn their life around. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandson, "Laney Bug". Annual camping trips to Canada with family and friends were always special times, as was touring the United States from Key West, Florida to Canada with Penny on his Harley. he was a member of the 579 U.A.W. and the Cayuga American Legion Post #263. David touched the lives of all that knew him and will leave a great loss with his passing. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Dr. Andy Spencer; Burial: Silver Island Cemetery in rural Kingman, Indiana with military rites by the Cayuga American Legion; Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EST Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the funeral home.
