Dave loved his extended family, and was a loving (and occasionally ornery) husband, father, and grandfather. Dave graduated Danville High School in 1959, and initially attended the University of Colorado on a football scholarship. He joined the United States Navy in July 1960 serving honorably for four years until June 1964. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Illinois State University and Masters of Science in Education from the University of Illinois, he was employed by Danville School District 118 in a variety of positions before retiring in 1994. During his tenure with District 118, he founded the first alternative education school at Northeast Elementary School and was honored to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony for the Kenneth D. Bailey Alternative School in Danville in 2012. Following retirement, Dave and Sharon moved initially to Tucson AZ, and became avid RVers, traveling around the United States. He fully enjoyed retirement living the adage that "Everyday is a Saturday".
