Oakwood - David Johnathan Tabels having his dwelling place complete was called to his eternal rest February 13, 2017. He was the eldest son of his parents Harlan W. and Florence (Drews)Tabels. Even as a Danville High student he began working in the operating room as an orderly in 1963. He entered Saint Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1965. Since school policy forbid students from getting married he secretly married the love of his life, Susan Elaine Boswell on April 28, 1967. He later graduated from Lake View Memorial Hospital receiving his diploma in 1968. Following a year as an industrial nurse preparation was made to further his education. He applied for anesthesia school at Wausau Hospital School of Anesthesia receiving his diploma in 1973 with certification to follow that same year. He accepted a position at Gibson Community Hospital in 1974. It was at this time Jesus Christ layed His hand on Dave and a new life began. He was baptized in Dr. Malcom Spencer's swimming pool on November 4, 1975 and filled with the Holy Ghost, and became a new creation. The highlight of Dave's life was his commitment to follow Christ. He experienced many miracles. He saw his children survive an explosion and house fire, he survived having a car fall on him but the greatest miracles occurred at the Rock Church Kids Kamp in the 80's. He saw first-hand what it was like for people to work together in unity to see "miracles with fun". Children touched by God through those who chose to be used. In 1988 he moved to his hometown Danville where he was employed by P.U.S.M.C. And his last position at Danville Polyclinic A.S.T.C. Completing his career after 41 years. David and his wife of 49 years raised 7 children. Darin (Kamia) Tabels, Angela (Eric) Rome, Joseph (Mandy)Tabels, Jonathon (Amber)Tabels, Emily (Mark) Taggart, Stephen Tabels, and Daniel Tabels. He leaves 12 grandchildren. Michiah Sprague, Codie, Logan, and Sophia Rome, Emmy Lee, Matthew, Sarah Beth, Aaron, Madelynn, and Isaac Tabels, Ariel and Aurora Taggart. He has four surviving siblings, Karen Duffin, Marilee Trosper, Stephanie Ross, and Matthew Tabels. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2017 At the Rock Church in Danville with Pastor Jeff Johns officiating. Visitation will be 2-6 PM on Sunday, February 19 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Memorials may be made to King Kids Village, PO Box 1436, Danville, IL, 61834.
