David E. Walker, 65, of Danville, IL passed away December 22, 2021, at 10:40 p.m. at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville with family by his side. David was born July 3, 1956, in Danville, IL to Joseph and Lauretta (Schmit) Walker.
He is survived by his three sisters, Linda Weiss of Papillion, NE, Janet Myers of Danville, Laura (Mike) Hutchison of Covington, IN; nephews, Chad Cooper, Eric Cooper, Adam (Lyndsey) Hutchison, Ryan (Courtney) Hutchison; nieces, Michele (Bill) Ward, Brandy (Colten) Chadwick, and several great nieces and nephews. He also is survived by two children of Mary Phelps, whom he raised, Randy Phelps and Kevin Phelps, grandchildren Breanna Phelps, Alexis Phelps, Emma Moultrie, Amyria Phelps, and Brenden Phelps, and two great-grandchildren.
David is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Michael Weiss, great nephew, Jaiden Cooper, and special friend, Mary Phelps.
David was baptized on June 13, 1965, and confirmed May 1971, both at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended Fairchild Grade School, Trinity Lutheran School, and graduated Danville High School in 1975.
David worked at Spring Hill Cemetery for 30 years starting in high school, then at Mervis Industries, Carlson Tree Service, ThyssenKrupp Gerlach, and was employed at McLane Midwest for 14 years at the time of his death.
He loved to watch NASCAR and old TV shows, enjoyed gardening, cooking, grilling, playing the lottery, and spending time with his family. He was a "talker" and never met a stranger.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 31, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Kent Tibben will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the funeral home.
It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or service wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran School, 824 E Main, Danville IL or to the donors choice.
