David C. Foster

David C. Foster, 66, of Danville, passed away at 10:32 AM on January 29, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 30, 1947 in Danville, the son of Leborn Alvis and Charlett Maxine (Cross) Foster. He married the love of his life, Lynn Ford on April 21, 1986. She survives. He will be deeply missed by his wife, a daughter, Decema Lynette Foster-Howe, a son, Lee Gregg Foster, one sister, Rebecca (Bill) Keith, one grandson, Levi Nicholas, three granddaughters, Nakiseta and Aerial Foster, and Nicole Leigh Foster, who Dave and Lynn raised as their daughter from the time she was 23 months old. Nicole is now a teacher and living in New Orleans, LA. He also had several wonderful nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his father, and one sister, Linda Rusmisel. He was a graduate of Danville High School, he went on to join the United States Navy serving from 1965-1967. After his time in the Navy Dave joined Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 293, then 157 and worked in the craft for over 40 years. He was a proud member of the Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, Kiwanis Club, and Anchor Lodge. He was an active precinct committeeman, life-long Democrat, labor activist and former president of the Danville Area AFL-CIO. He was also a former member of the Vermilion County Conservation Board of Directors. Dave had a love for children whether it be transporting them to the Shriners Childrens Hospital or just saying hello at the local convenient store. He was known as an avid storyteller by all who met him. He delivered many meals-on-wheels to the local community. He loved the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints football teams along with all the Illini sports and NASCAR. He was a history “buff”, primarily studying the Civil War, World War II and numerous conspiracy theories. He enjoyed traveling, trying new things, and meeting new people; he appreciated all of lifes little things. He will be greatly missed by all of the family that he loved so dearly. A celebration of life memorial service for Dave will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:30 PM prior to the service. Masonic Rites will start at 1:30 PM. Memorials can be made in Daves name to the Eastern Illinois Shrine Club.
