David Allen Dodson

Newport, Ind. - David Allen Dodson, 75, of Newport, passed away at 11:50 a.m. EDT Monday, August 7, 2017 at his residence.

He was born July 18, 1942 in Noblesville, Indiana the son of the late Ernest Eugene and Kathryn Fern (Cox) Dodson.

David married Esther Jean Johnson on August 8, 1962 in Rosedale, Indiana. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2016.

Survivors include his children, Dora (Steve) High of Newport, Indiana; Dean (Susan) Dodson of Danville, Illinois; Darla (Jim) Pollard of Dana, Indiana and Ruth (Fred) Staub of Georgetown, Illinois; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Ernest; Sandra; Judy; Michael; Sherry; Franklin; Rebecca; Donald; Robin and John, and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his son, David A. Dodson, Jr. and siblings, Delores; Martha; Jerome; Linda; Raymond; Kenneth; Mary; Barbara; James and Richard.

David retired from the Vermillion County Highway Department as a Foreman.

He enjoyed painting; listening to music; mowing and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren.

Funeral services: 1 p.m. EDT Thursday, August 10, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Dean High; Burial: Michael Cemetery in Indianola, Illinois; Visitation: Noon EDT Thursday, August 10, 2017 until time of services at the funeral home.
