David A. Smith

David A. Smith, 81, of Ridge Farm, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:25 a.m. April 4, 2015 at Newman Rehab & Health Center in Newman. David was born March 6, 1934 in Georgetown the son of Arthur and Inez Thornsbrough Smith. He married Susie Hart on November 2, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV, she will miss him dearly. He is also survived by: a step-son, Jay Hart of Wellington, FL; a daughter, Tina (Marvin) Fitzwater of Plainfield, IL; three brothers, Ferman “Pete” (Phyllis) Smith of Texas, Calvin Smith of Danville, and William (Betty) Smith of Tuscola; one sister, Patsy Gooch of Arizona; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Caroline Hart of Florida; three step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two step- sons, Jeff and Jerry; and two sisters, Margaret and Regina. David was a 1953 graduate of Georgetown High School and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army serving 1956-1958. He retired from farming in 1998 which allowed him to enjoy traveling with his wife, Susie. He enjoyed wood working and his good companion, Buddy his German shepherd. David attended the Vermilion Grove Friends Church, in which he loved his Lord with all his heart. He will be missed by many and remembered for his great smile and beautiful blue eyes. A celebration of life funeral service for David will be at 12 noon Wednesday April 8, 2015 at Vermilion Grove Friends Church in Vermilion Grove. Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00 am till the time of service on Wednesday at the Church. Officiating will be Pastors Richard Cook and Jim Walker. Place of rest will be in the Vermilion Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203. Memorial donations can be given to the Vermilion Grove Friends Church.
