Darrell Kight

Darrell Franklin Kight, 80, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2010 at 9:45p.m. in Winter Haven, FL, having previously resided in Covington, IN. Darrell was born on February 2, 1930 in Hammond, IN, the son of Orval and Ileta Kight. He married Barbara Lanham on June 16, 1950 in rural Covington. Darrell retired from Alcoa Aluminum in Lafayette, IN after 30 years. He then took classes for air conditioning and refrigeration to work for Covington Foods until his second retirement. He and Barb then toured the country in their motor home, then enjoyed wonderful friends as snow birds. Enjoying summers in Indiana with their children, Steve (Roxanne) Kight from Cayuga, In, Patti (Wayne) Whittington from rural Kingman, and Lori (Stan) Rife from rural Metcalf, IL. He is survived by his wife, children, six grandchildren, Bryon and Shawn Kight from West Lebanon, IN, Nichole (JD) Spencer from Yale, IL, Sarah, Jessica, and Ashley Rife from Metcalf, IL and 6 great grandchildren. Darrell is also survived by one brother, Don Kight from Covington and 2 sisters, Beverly (Harry) Blake from Winter Haven, FL and Norma (John) Duncan from Covington, IN. He was a member of Salem United Methodist church, and attended Hope Presbyterian in Winter Haven, FL and Second church of Christ in Danville, IL. Darrell and Barb enjoyed traveling the world before retirement, and he never met a stranger. Darrell always kept the grandchildren laughing A Celebration of Darrells Life will be held at 10:30 am EDT, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Sunsets Covington Chapel 420 3rd. Street, Covington, IN 47932, with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm EDT Monday evening at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Attica, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Sheperd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave, Auburndale, FL 33823.
