Darrell G. Holmes

Darrell G. Holmes, 71, of Covington. Indiana, passed away into the loving arms of his Savior on February 14, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Darrell was born September 8. 1952, to Russell and Norma Buckner Holmes in Herrin. Illinois. Darrell married Sondra (Soni) Sims on September 30, 1972.

Darrell was a serial hobbiest taking on new interests throughout his life, including hunting, fishing, showing horses, raising ostriches, beekeeping, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Darrell never did anything on a small scale including loving his wife of over 50 years and his girls.

Darrell is survived by his wife Soni and daughters Jen (Bob) Fish and Beth (Rodney) Benker, grandchildren Lauren, Allie, and Nate Fish, Paris Headlee, and Jorja and Avery Walker, and Nolan Benker, great-grandchild, Charlotte Headlee and sister Cheryl (Mike) Taylor of Creal Springs, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother, and younger sister.

Special thanks to all of the first responders, nurses, doctors, and medical personnel who took great care of Darrell throughout his illness.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 10 am - 11 am CST at the Second Church of Christ, located at 3350 E Voorhees St. in Danville, IL 61834. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow on Saturday at 11 am CST at the church. Pastor Kiley Garrison will be officiating. Memorials in his name can be made to the American Lung Association.
