Darleen Ann Swingle, 79, of Covington, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at her daughters home with family by her side. She was born on August 2, 1942, in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Lowell and Burnis (Gremore) Galloway. Darleen was united in marriage on April 28, 1963, to Charles Edward Swingle until his passing on October 15, 2020.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Matthew (Kris) Swingle of Oakwood, IL; daughters, Tamera (Tony) DeMoss and Kimberly Eaton both of Covington; grandchildren, Allyson (Scottie) Burchett, Rebecca (Ethan) Waln, Jacob Eaton, Seth DeMoss, and Zachary Eaton; great grandchildren, Lucas and Zander Burchett; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and her 5 sisters-in-law. Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Burnis; husband, Charles, grandson, Corbin Eaton; brothers, Gale and Steve Galloway; sister, Doris Kagels.
Darleen graduated from Covington Community High School in the class of 1960. She then attended Lakeview College of Nursing where she earned her RN license, and later completed her BSN degree. After brief employment at Olin and Williamsport hospital, she worked over 33 years at Lakeview hospital in Danville, Illinois before she retired. She was a life-long member of the Covington-Salem United Methodist Church, also member of Wabash Valley Gardening Club and Rural Troy Town Home Ec. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, bible study group, book club with friends, and camping with family. Darleen adored her children and her grandchildren and attending all their activities. She greatly cherished every moment she spent with all family.
A celebration of Darleens life will be held at 3:00pm (EST) on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Covington- Salem United Methodist Church, 1651 Salem Church Rd. Covington, IN. Officiating the service will be Pastor Ralph Brian. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 3:00pm (EST) prior to her service at the church. Per Darleens wish, she will be cremated following her service. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made in Darleens honor to Covington-Salem United Methodist Church or Covington Community Foundation.
