Danville - Danny Winland, 77, of Danville, passed away on Tuesday October 29, 2013 at North Logan Health Care. He was born on March 20, 1936 in Danville, the son of Earl E. and Mary Ridge Winland. He was married to Barbara Hood on April 15, 1976 in Danville, they have since then been divorced. He is survived by his son Mark (Margarete) Winland of Bloomington; his daughter Lori Winland- Cruz of Danville; his three grandchildren Jeffery Cruz of Indianapolis, Tyler Winland of Bloomington, and Trent Winland of Bloomington; and his two great-grandchildren Emma and Ava Cruz. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marilyn Thomas. She passed away in 2003. Danny was an amazing individual who dedicated his life to educating and coaching students at DACC. He taught many classes through his years at DACC but he is also known for starting the wrestling team in 1967 and coaching it until 1978. He also coached the soccer team in 1979; just last year in 2012, Danny was inducted into the DACC Athletic Hall of Fame. He could also be found spending time flying RC airplanes in Kickapoo Park. Danny also loved motorcycles, Harleys in particular; he started with a sportster and moved his way up the ranks to larger and louder bikes. Danny was a member of the masonic lodge, a member of the Elks Club, and the Gao Grotto; he will be sorely missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
