Danny R Dunavan

Danny R. Dunavan, 80, of Bismarck, Illinois, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

He was born April 12, 1944, in Danville, Illinois, son of the late Ralph and Ellen (Story) Dunavan.

Danny married Katy Stockard on May 9, 1965, in Danville, Illinois, and she survives.

Surviving along with his wife are his sons: Kevin Dunavan of Danville, Illinois, and Darren (Joanne) Dunavan of Toccoa, Georgia; his sister: Mary Jo McDonald; and his grandchildren: Elizabeth, Peter and Leah Dunavan.

Along with his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother: Don Dunavan.

Danny worked as a superintendent for several construction companies over the years. He completed projects in Tennessee, Fort Campbell, Scott Air Force Base, and helped complete the Air Traffic Control Tower at Indianapolis International Airport. He was first a member at Old Union Church of Christ and later CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville, and a member of the Bismarck Lions Club. He was a proud supporter of the Blue Devils and spent time on the football field as a member of the "Chain Gang" for Bismarck-Henning High School. When Danny was not outside tending to his garden or golfing, he could be found woodworking in his garage, or kicked back watching NASCAR races. He loved the Fighting Illini and looked forward to March Madness every year. Above all, Danny enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends.

A Celebration of Life for Danny will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, with Pastor Miles Clark officiating at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street in Danville. A private family burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 1PM-2PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the funeral home in Danville.
