Dan Whitaker

Dan Whitaker, 69, of Covington, IN, passed away at 3:30am, Monday, December 28, 2020, at St. Vincent Heart Center, Carmel, IN. He was born on February 24, 1951, in Danville, IL, the son of Andrew and Ethel (Flaharty) Whitaker. He was united in marriage to Sue Allison on May 20, 1972. She will miss him dearly. Dan is also survived by his daughter, Tammy (Aaron DeMotte) Whitaker of Danville; his granddaughter, Ciara DeMotte; his three brothers, Jim Whitaker, Charles (Phyllis) Whitaker, and Joe (Sandy) Whitaker; his sister, Carolee (Jim) Huston; his sister-in-law, Linda Whitaker; many nieces & nephews; and several special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Ann Richey; and his brothers, Steve Whitaker & Tim Whitaker. Dan attended Covington High School where he excelled at football. He worked at Olin/Flexel as a millwright until their closure and worked at Bungee for several years until his retirement in 2016. Everyone, whether they were related or not, knew they could call him Uncle Dan or Grandpa Dan. He enjoyed metal detecting and watching little league sports. He also enjoyed hunting and was happy to mentor the youth in hunting. He always cared for others whether it was plowing the snow for them or helping someone to mow their grass. Dan loved his family and cherished spending time with them. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am (EST), Monday, January 4, 2021, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington. Visitation will be held 2:00pm-4:00pm (EST), Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932.
