Dan Reifsteck

Dan Reifsteck, 84, of Thomasboro passed away Saturday evening, May 13, 2023, at The Villas of Holly Brook, Rantoul.

Dan was born Feb. 9, 1939, the son of Carl and Lucy Reifsteck. He married Nancy Babb on Feb. 9, 1985.

He graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1957. He started farming as a teenager and farmed in the Bondville, Champaign and Thomasboro areas for 64 years.

Dan was president of the Thomasboro school board, a volunteer Thomasboro firefighter and president of the TIA hall.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Thomasboro; five children, Julie (Rod) Combest of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jane (Bob) Elliott of Champaign, Rick (Teresa) Reifsteck of Champaign, Michelle Juday of Thomasboro and Todd Farmer of Rantoul; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchldren; one sister, Cathy Jo Brown of Delphi, Ind.; four sisters-in-law, Pat Combs of Thomasboro, Kay Babb of Champaign, Janice Crozier of Gifford and Kay Anderson of Placerville, Calif.; two brothers-in-law, John (Cathy) Babb of Thomasboro and Robert May of Rolla, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and a nephew.

He enjoyed sharing his delicious sweet corn, farming for many years with his grandson, golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling (especially to Orange Beach, Ala.) and cheering on the Illini and St. Louis Cardinals.

A special thank you to Transitions Hospice for all their devoted care, especially Bonita and Sal, and the wonderful caregivers at Holly Brook in Rantoul.

His family will determine a date to celebrate his life at a later time.

Memorials may be made to the Thomasboro Fire Department, P.O. Box 574, Thomasboro, IL 61878, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 506 E. Ramsey Road, Suite 3, San Antonio, TX 78216-4657, in honor of Dan Reifsteck and in support of his great-granddaughter Eden, who is a cystic fibrosis fighter.
