Morrison, CO Dan Leland Hughes, 80, of Morrison, CO, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away at 9:40 AM on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at his home. He was born on September 30, 1943, in Danville, IL, to Ardith (Cox) and Leland Hughes. He married Linda Pearson on December 7, 1963, in Danville, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Beth Cornwell, and Chad (Shelly) Hughes; two sisters, Joetta Hufford and Jo Anna (Jerry) Gillen; three grandchildren, Schuyler (fiance Ashley Bonamo) Hughes, Cade Hughes, and Easton Hughes; and a great grandchild, Bailey Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three nephews, Rod Gillen, Brett Hufford, and Trent Hufford.
Dan was born and raised in Rossville, IL, and graduated from Utterback Brown Business College in 1964. He began his banking career in 1966, retiring from Oakwood Bank in Oakwood, IL, after having served as its Vice President of Loans for several years.
Dan's life was a testament to love and care, embodying the essence of a devoted husband and family man with a heart overflowing with generosity. To his wife he was a loving and devoted husband for 60 years. While raising his children, he dedicated himself to supporting their dreams, actively engaging in various committees that nurtured their extracurricular pursuits including serving as Treasurer for the Georgetown Sportsmans Club throughout their high school years. Dan exemplified unwavering commitment as a father, never once missing a ballgame, and always cheering his children on. He was extremely proud of their accomplishments. Later in life, Dan found great joy in spending time with his beloved grandchildren, taking pride in watching their individual lives unfold.
His character was marked by honesty and integrity, traits that earned him respect and admiration from everyone fortunate enough to know him. Dan's selflessness was a defining feature, as he consistently prioritized the needs of others above his own, leaving a lasting impact on those whose lives he touched.
Beyond his roles as a family man and a dedicated professional, Dan was also a gifted woodworker, showcasing his talent and passion for craftsmanship. His creations stand as enduring testaments to his skill and creativity, reflecting the depth of his talents and the beauty of his spirit.
Dan's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him, serving as a guiding light in the memories cherished by family, friends, and the communities he enriched.
A service to celebrate Dans life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at CrossRoads Christian Church, Danville, IL. Pastor Miles Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, Georgetown, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm 7:00 pm, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, also at CrossRoads Christian Church. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CrossRoads Christian Church or Shriners Hospital for Children.
